Harstad Church

Get the feel of entering a cathedral from the Viking Ages! Visit Harstad Church in Troms og Finnmark county for a surreal experience.
The history of Harstad Church dates back to World War II when there wasn’t a proper functioning cathedral in the city. There was a need for a church when Trondenes Church was shut down for renovation. Thus, in 1953, work began to build Harstad’s exclusive church under the guidance of the architect Sigurd Bjørhovde. It was completed in 1958 and was consecrated by Bishop Alf Wig. It is one of the city’s popular attractions where hundreds of locals unite for prayers. The artistic interiors and the scenic landscapes surrounding the church give a complete visual treat to visitors. Guided tours of this typical Nordic beauty are available throughout the year.
