Trondenes Church

Trondenes Church in Harstad is the northernmost stone church in the world! Come, visit this beauty to witness a cathedral from the medieval ages.
One of the popular attractions in the Trondenes peninsula is the Trondenes Church, which faces the beautiful waterfront of the coastline. Though it has always been referred to as the 13th-century church, archaeological experts state that the present church would have been built around 1434. Over the years, the church has undergone restoration work; however, it is still well-preserved, with the exteriors as close as the original structure. As you enter the premises, you will notice the presence of beautiful artwork with unique religious significance. There is a triptych inside the church at the head, which depicts the deep history of this 700-800-year-old cathedral. Some parts of the roof are the remains of the oldest preserved sails. You will also see an hourglass at the baroque pulpit and an organ from the 18th century. Trondenes Church is well-preserved with a seating area that can accommodate up to 300 people compared to other medieval age churches. It is open in the summer for the public from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. The church is a 10-minute car ride from Harstad city centre, so don't miss this marvel, especially if you're on a sightseeing trip.
